Farmers in the region of Preveza ââ¬âGreece have reported heavy losses
due to Tuta absoluta infestation this summer. The pest which arrived around
2009 has been largely been under control using integrated pest management
strategies. However, the outbreak this
summer seems to take the farmers by surprise.
Combating Tuta absoluta with chemical insecticides should be made with great attention and good rotation, because the insect has shown resistance to many of them. In Preveza there are several indications of the development of insect resistance to insecticides, while in Crete there is evidence, at least for the group of diamides (flubendiamide, chlorantraniliprole).
