MINISTRY FOR RESOURCES AND RURAL AFFAIRS, Malta has reported the infestation of Tuta absoluta for the first time in Malta in a greenhouse at Dingli (South West region of Malta). The situation/distribution of this pest in Malta is being further studied since this pest was never reported / intercepted till present.
The Plant Health Department issued guidelines on the control of Tuta absoluta, which guidelines can be accessed from the Plant Health Departments website. The Plant Health Department is also carrying out monitoring surveys and will hold a meeting about the moth for farmers on Friday 29 May at 7 p.m. at the Farmers' Central Cooperative Society, Ta' Qali.
The Plant Health Department encourages the general public especially those involved in tomato cultivation to report to the Department the presence of this pest or its symptoms to help the Plant Health Department in the assessment of distribution and situation of this pest.
