Observations by farmers along the Mediterranean coast of Syria were confirmed to be the initial signs of Tuta absoluta outbreak.
Pheromone traps charged with the sex pheromone of Tuta absoluta captured a number of insect in various locations. Signs of typical Tuta absoluta leaf damage were observed in many farms in the regions of Banyas as well as Tartous. Plans of a survey along the whole costal area have been drawn to evaluate the extent of the outbreak.
